Impossible as it sounds! It is TRUE! The Falcon Robotics Team of Carl Hayden High School headed by Instructors Sam Alexander, Allan Cameron and Fredi Lajvardi beat all the universities and Junior colleges, including MIT (Mass. institute of tech) in The MATE National ROV Championships in Santa Barbara, CA this past weekend. The official results are not posted yet but will be shortly. Student members Luis Aranda, Oscar Vasquez, Cristian Arcega, and Lorenzo Santillan participated in many different aspects of the competition, from a static poster display to an oral presentation as well as the underwater robot competition part of the contest.

The team won the most awards at the competition.

  1. Judges choice for best ROV
  2. Elegance in Design Award
  3. 1st Place in the Technical Writing
  4. 1st place overall in the competition (cummilation of many diff. points from diff. parts of the comp.)

There were 12 entries in the university/ Jr. College division The Explorer Class, 3 of them were high school entires. Carl Hayden's Falcon Robotics was one of them.

In the underwater mission part, the team finished third behind MIT 1st and Cape Fear Community College 2nd. Carl Hayden and MIT were the only teams the brought up samples of the "toxic" substance from a leaky barrel. The Falcons brought up the most, over 1 liter of it!

Right Now CARL HAYDEN IS THE NUMBER ONE ROV SCHOOL IN THE NATION, HIGHSCHOOL, JR. COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY!!!
