The LBV200L2 was selected due to its long list of standard features at a reasonable cost including a 200m depth rating, 250m (820ft) of ultra-thin low drag umbilical on a reel with slip ring, crisp fiber optic video, internal LED lighting, powerful Brushless Thrusters, Integrated Control Console with 38cm (15in) LCD and intuitive Hand Controller, and 24-month standard warranty. Unique to the LBV in this class of ROV is 4-axis flight (like a helicopter) combined with auto-heading, -depth, and –trim, as well as precise thruster gain adjustments that make retrieval of objects much easier. These features are critical as their objectives include evidence gathering, search and recovery, and ship hull inspections in harbor currents. To further enhance their capabilities, the Harbor Police selected options including a multi-function Grabber Arm, BlueView multi-beam sonar, USBL tracking, and external LED lighting. SeaBotix is currently the only mini-ROV that provides full bandwidth multi-beam sonar data via a fiber optic Ethernet link to topside, rather than only part of the sonar’s capability via copper wire. This means the evidence they gather using the LBV will be the highest quality possible within the mini and micro ROV classes. The San Diego Harbor Police are now fully trained and equipped with the LBV200L2 adding a new level of capability in the protection and defense of San Diego Harbor. |
Members of the San Diego Harbor Police successfully completed comprehensive training on their new LBV200L2 at the SeaBotix facility and San Diego Harbor They selected 3 days of training for 4 personnel, consisting of comprehensive maintenance, service and piloting skills. Even with their proximity to the SeaBotix facility, they understand that proper training and equipment knowledge is vital for mission-critical applications.
