AUV/ROV Thrusters
line

SeaBotix offers a variation to the standard LBV thrusters for use on alternate systems such as home built, project or production ROVs and AUVs. The high performance, simple to integrate and low cost thrusters have proved popular in many areasBTD150.

Utilizing the same construction as the SBT150 thruster but removing the LBV electronics make integration simple. A long whip is provided with two (2) wires - Power & Ground. The mounting holes on the thruster provide a simple way to mount to different systems.

Shown with OPTIONAL Subconn connector.

Continual Bollard thrust is an impressive 2.2 kg-f (4.85 lbs-f) at only 4.25 amps. Peak thrust is 2.9 kgf (6.4 lbs-f) for short periods by increasing the current. At 4.25 amps the BTD150 thrusters only require 19 VDC making the power requirement only 80 watts.

Each thruster assembly includes:

  • Brushed DC motor and housing
  • End caps, prop and kort nozzle
  • 1m (39in) whip with 2 wire end

Options

  • 2 pin male Subconn wet mateable connector (Part# CN32)
    • Replaces 2 wire whip

Client Profile

SoniaStudents from Ecole de Technologie Superieure (ETS) in Montreal, Quebec recently developed their own AUV for the International Autonomous Underwater Competition sponsored by the Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International (AUVSI).

The AUV is called SONIA, which stands for Système d’Opération Nautique Intelligent et Autonome, utilized the SeaBotix BTD150 thrusters for propulsion.

SONIA outperformed all but two of the 21 entries in the student competition, securing a place for ETS on the podium for a fourth year in a row. With an overall budget of just $20,100 U.S. (provided by ETS and a variety of corporate sponsors), the ETS team scored higher than teams with six-figure budgets.
