Brush-Less DC LBV Thrusters |
 |
As with all ROVs the thrusters are one of the key components. They must provide adequate power to overcome drag from both the ROV and its umbilical. Plus they must be robust. The SeaBotix HPDC1500 Brush-Less DC thruster is all of this.
The use of Brush-Less DC thrusters provides the ability for the motors to be run at a higher current unlike the Brushed motors. This is possible because the armature is on the outside where it can heat sink better.
Performance is always key. The HPDC1500 Brush-Less DC thrusters have a Bollard Thrust of 3.9 kgf (8.6ft/lbs) each.
Utilizing the same construction as the standard LBV thrusters with composites, hard anodized aluminum and stainless steel the HPDC1500 Brush-Less DC t thrusters are rugged and easy to maintain. Each thruster is individually oil-compensated which allows the thruster to operate at greater depths, cool the motor better and provide little chance of flooding.
The shaft seal is comprised of two o-rings with special high speed grease in between. An outer o-ring keeps debris off the inner sealing o-ring. Being oil-compensated there is no pressure on the sealing o-ring.
In the event objects get sucked into the propeller a safety circuit is built in to shut the motor down before any damage occurs. Remove the object and the thruster will operate as normal. |
